Undergraduate Education
The Department actively participates in the undergraduate education of medical students, nursing students, and other students pursuing healthcare-related disciplines. The knowledge of Clinical Microbiology is imparted through a comprehensive approach, including lectures, tutorials, and practical classes. The curriculum encompasses various essential aspects such as pathogenesis, natural history, laboratory diagnosis, management, and prevention of infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. This integrated approach is coordinated through the Panel of Haematology, Infection, and Immunity within the medical curriculum, while nursing students have a dedicated separate course.
Additionally, the Department offers the Basic Infection Control Module (BICM), which is a mandatory requirement for all students prior to their clinical attachment. Through a combination of lectures, hands-on practical classes, online resources, and practical assessments, students are equipped with fundamental infection control skills and knowledge. Moreover, the Department ensures the proper fit-testing of N95 Respirators for all medical students.
Selected study modules (SSM) are offered to medical students.
