CHU, Adrian Jun

Adrian has an extensive background working on clinically significant bacteria. Upon completing his PhD work on characterising Neisseria meningitidis pathogenicity-associated genomic islands with Prof James Moir at the Department of Biology, the University of York, he started his career in the discovery and development of novel antimicrobials by joining a multi-disciplinary research group at the Department of Chemistry at York as a postdoc under Prof Anne Duhme-Klair working on “Trojan Horse” antimicrobial conjugates and prodrug candidates. He later joined Prof Xiao Yang’s team at CUHK Department of Microbiology as a postdoc working closely alongside multi-disciplinary collaborators on the in vitro characterisation of first-in-class inhibitors of bacterial transcription as novel antimicrobial candidates. Aside from research dissemination, his involvements in the field have since branched out to include industry, notably the entrepreneurial endeavours in the University spin-off pharmaceutical start-up Ynno Med Limited. Adrian is committed to bring about changes in combating infectious diseases through solid translational research, and to address the wider antimicrobial crisis with the use of cutting-edge technology and revolutionary approaches.
